My blogpost , How I work
1. I learn best when The information or directions are given to me in a diagram, word document or other things I can read of. I am a better learner when the directions are given to me manually. I tend to have trouble listening in class therefore taking directions that are readable are much easier for me to process. Reading is one of my strengths therefore reading directions is a key was for me to work. Reading information or directions from the board come with a few advantages. You don't have to ask the teacher to repeat if there is something you don't understand. Since it is already there you can just read over. Another big advantage that comes with reading of the board is that it normally explains directions very well. That statement isn't always true though. Sometimes hearing the information aloud explains allot. It just tends to be more descriptive.
2. I need to listen better in class. As I said in the paragraph above listening is one of my weaknesses. I can listen for no more then a couple of minutes. After that my mind focuses on something else and when I am asked to explain what has just been said I am left clueless. I believe I have adhd a listening disorder. I tend to veer of in class when there is something I am not particularly good at or just aren't very interesting. The slightest thing can take me of subject. My eyes cannot stay focused in class which is something else that gives me a hard time concentrating. For example my normal day after school consists of mainly me vegging on the computer doing home work as well as a variety of other things like checking my email. When I open up a new tab I go right of subject and the next thing I know I am watching YouTube. As I wright this essay I am being taken of subject. For me reading of the board is my ideal way of learning.
3. The strategies that would help me in my learning should be things to do with my listening. I think if I was more exposed to simply listening then I would be more use to it and hopefully improve. I think a personal goal for me would definitely be to listen better. This has been my goal for several years. I think if I was not in reach of anything that could distract me then I would be able to listen much better. One strategy that comes to be very helpful is sitting closer to the teacher. I would surely be able to listen better and stay focused. Connecting with that I think sitting without any of my close friends would also be very helpful. When I say close friends I am referring to anyone who likes to chit chat. This would also help me listen better. Another distraction out of the way. I think tests that have you read a story then be asked questions about it are very helpful. Hearing the story orally would be better though.
4. I would like my teachers to know this about me. I am very easily distracted and have trouble listening in class. If I tend to zone out in class you will know why. When working on homeworks I do a majority of things at the same time. It may not always be spell checked. I do not always try as hard as I can on tests. I must be pushed to the limits if I am to try my absolute best. In group discussions I contribute many useful ideas. I work well when I am in a group.

Blog post 2 on Literature circles
1.The benefits of working with a classmate.
There are many benefits that come with working with a partner. You can always count on them to give you feedback and improve on your literature circle. Any capitalization mistakes or spelling mistakes get corrected by your partner. One big positive aspect of working with a partner is that you don't have as much work to do which gives you more time to work on your part of the literature circle as well as less work to stress on. Working with a partner in literature circles means sharing a document. In that case you can both be working on it at the same time so you can send them feedback which improves your grade and your partners. Having a partner takes away allot of stress. It leaves you with less work and any concerns you have with the literature circle you can share with them. Having A partner is very helpful in many situations and takes off allot of stress. Having a classmate work with you easier for me and many advantages come with just having a partner.
2. Challenges / obstacles which you overcame (tried to overcome)
Many obstacles some how find there way into literature circles. Me and my partner came across many problems throughout out literature circle. Capitalization and spelling came up very often due to the fact we had not used spell check. A much bigger problem we encountered was creating good discussion question. Personally Finding a good discussion question is the hardest thing for me to do in a literature circle. Another challenge I faced was finding a good connection that really related to Jacob's adventure in the bush and give it the best description I could. Literature circles have many obstacles/challenges along the way which can be overcome with help or possibly the right brain.
3. New understandings that you gained about the novel.
I understood this book much clearer after having a literature circle discussion. Many things that were not clear to me were explained clearly by my group members. In one of my literature circle passages I explained how I didn't understand one section in the book. It involved Jacob floating down the river experiencing something I wasn't quite sure of. My group members clearly explained the whole situation to me. I re read some parts of the book because either it didn't make sense to me or I read it improperly. I have understood more and more about this story every day and as I read on more is revealed.

Lit circle Blog post
1. How has your groups discussion helped your understanding of the novel.
My group discussion gave me a much better idea of the book and pointed many things out to me. This happened because the things I didn't understand they pointed out to me with evidence from the book. When one of our group members was presenting he said something that did not occur in the book, we checked for it and realized he was right. Checking before criticizing is always the first thing to do. The members of discussion regularly have different opinions on events in the book so we check in the book. Mu groups discussion has helped me understand the novel better because in our discussions we all discuss what has been happening in the book and background information on the book. We basically summarize the book.
2. Connections that you made during your discussion
The connections I make in literature circles reflect on everything that has been going on in the book. They connect to some of the major events or just parts of the story. Normally connections made in literature discussions are very interesting, for example one of our literature circle members had a connection similar to the main character of the story when he thought of running away from home. Last literature circle discussion we made connections as we were going through parts of the book.
3. Predictions
Predictions are very usefull for anything you are doing. In literature circles predictions are very interesting. We can compare predictions to each other and see what different people think is going to happen. Predictions also come to be very fun and surprising. Let's say you said the main character was going to survive the story and he doesn't ,you would be very surprised. It is also very fun to compare your predictions to you results and see what really happened. Predictions in literature circles are very useful for many different reasons, they make you want to find out what happens, they pull the reader in to the story, they are fun to compare and they can also be very surprising.

Guns, Germs and Steel
1. What role did geographic location and natural resources play in the the development of Malaysia?
Malaysia is an island in Southeast Asia. It population last recorded in 2009 was over 28 million. It is located 2 degrees 30 North and 112degrees 30 East. Malaysia is surrounded by South China Sea and Sulu Sea. It's neighboring countries are countries are Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore. Malaysia is split up in to 2 parts, East Malaysia in the East and Peninsular Malaysia in the West. The Strait of Malacca found in Malacca is one of the biggest shipping lanes on the planet. Malacca was very famous for trade. Malaysia was formed in 1963 through a federation of the former British colonies of Malaysia and Singapore. Malaysia has been independent since 1957. Malaysia is still a developing nation.
Malaysia's location took a big part in it's development. It's started of to be a very lush tropical environment a great place to start a community. Malaysia is a very hot country so you would find lots of wild around the country. Some of the biggest city's are surrounded by thick jungle. The Strait of Malacca found in Malacca is one of the biggest shipping lanes on the planet. Malacca was very famous for trade. There are basically 2 seasons in Malaysia which are the dry seasons and monsoon. Malaysia barely has any natural disasters so the community is developing well.
Malaysia has a variety of resources that prove to be very useful in it's development. Malaysia is very endowed in areas such as agriculture. Malaysia is very famous for rubber and palm oil. They have hundreds of palm oil plantations around Malaysia. Malaysia specialize in fishing and farming. Some Malaysians are specialized in making micro chips. They have a gas industry. They have successful oil companies.
In conclusion the geographical location of Malaysia helped the country develop successfully along with the natural resources it has. I think that Malaysia will be fully developed in the future.

Mud skipper narrative, Jake
There I was just wallowing peacefully in the mud enjoying my free time tanning in the sun then all of a sudden a tremor shoots through the mud. My eyes open and I shoot into consciousness. I look up and walking towards me are huge giants. I look to my left and other mud skippers just like me are fleeing in all directions. I tried to blend in and it seemed to work. I lay extremely still then out of nowhere a catastrophic explosion sent me face first into the mud. Time to move I said to myself. I leaped into the tree line but a behemoth giant crashed down where I was lying. I was squished deep into the mud barely able to breath. The giant pulled himself up out of the mud as I ceased my chance and gasped for air. I sprinted deeper into the mangroves and rested then thought something was different. There were huge plants sticking high in the air then all of sudden from round the corner I saw a large bulky figure moving towards me. He reached down to where I was. I closed my eyes held my breath and prepared to be crushed. Slucckkkkkk! I opened one eye and looked around. I lay untouched and there was a huge mark where the plant had once been. Something was strange.
Were they friend or foe? The mysterious figure pulled the plant out of some form of material then dug a hole then placed the plant inside and buried. One after another they continued this pattern with a few odd slips and falls. I changed my mind about them but still kept a close glance. I decided to go back to check on my parents but out of nowhere a noise that almost blew up my ear drums rang out echoing through the mangroves. I looked up then suddenly a giant drenched in mud ran as fast as she could back the way she came. What was wrong? Was it me? Impossible, I was tiny. anyway apart from my dazzling looks what was wrong with me. The giants were staring at me with there faces filled with fear. I was controlling the situation. I advanced then more screams rose up. A grin lit up my face and I charged. Half giants backed up but the other half jumped at me. OMG! Time to move. I darted back threw the mud and burrowed just so my head appeared out of the top of the surface. I wondered what was happening then an idea hit me like thunder. They were assassins sent to murder me! Wait, that doesn't explain the plants. Maybe they were assassins sent to poison the mangrove. Wait, that doesn't explain the screaming. Then for real it hit me. They were planting trees in the mangrove.
Ohhhhhh I said to myself. I shouldn't have worried. They must have been helping the mangrove by planting trees. They weren't enemy's at all, they were saving out home. But that doesn't explain the screaming either. What's wrong with me? I waited through the long hours until they had all disappeared then emerged from under the mud. Whoa, what a day a crab said. Later that day night fell and we all sat round a plant discussing the day then something hit me.. Why would they help us? An old crab came out of the darkness and told us that they to depended on the mangroves for survival. The mangroves protected them from flash floods tsunamis and tropical storms and also gave them a food supply. Everybody crept back and trembled then the old crab told us didn't eat mud skippers or crabs. They ate fish. We all burst out laughing. "Who would eat a fish?" Said one of the younger crabs. "They are all smelly and big." "I heard that" said a fish nearby. They sat round the plant all night then fell asleep. We woke up normally the next day then.... More giants!

Courage Connections
Lunch break had just started and instantly the playground was filled with kids. Normally at lunch I enjoyed hanging out with my friends or playing a game of tag but this recess I wondered over to the covered area where some 4th graders were pushing a 3rd grader around. I was concerned but maybe it wasn't anything big. I decided to leave it alone. As I was walking away I heard someone shouting. It was the 3rd grader. He looked mad. He was standing firmly looking at one of the big 4th graders and he tried to fight back. He started aiming punches at them, then they kicked him in the leg and jumped on him. I was about to go and help him but it didn't feel like it was right. I continued watching like it was a tv show just watching helplessly as the 3rd grader was being knocked around. I thought I had seen enough and went off to do something else but I had made a mistake.
Still now I feel bad about what I did. I could have easily stopped it. I had so many options at the time: tell a teacher, go and tell them to stop or do nothing. I had known the third grader vaguely and I wasn't very fond of him but what I did was worse then bullying. I was watching it happen. I know what it feels like to have no one stand up for you. Like no one cares. I also know what it feels like to be stood up for. It means you have a friend who's willing to pay the consequences for you. They might also be picked on but it's always a nice thing to do for someone. The 3rd grade kid must have felt like no one cared about him or maybe they wanted him to get hurt. I know I should have acted but I can't change the past. Whenever I think about him I think about everyone in the world who has been affected by conflict in some way. Ruby Bridges an African American girl was the first to go to a white school, she was the only one in her class because of her skin colour. All the other kids in the other class were mean to her and made her feel bad but she accepted it and moved on. She reminds me of the 3rd grader. He fought back but once it was over he forgot about it and left it alone.
If I could have changed thing now I would have stopped them and told them no. There is no good reason to bully someone. If you don't like how they look then that's your problem. If they are smarter then you that's your problem. I would have gone right up to them ask what the situation was and told them to stop and apologize. I would have told the 3rd grader to ignore them and enjoy the rest of his break. And I would have told the 4th graders to leave him alone and think about doing something nice back to the victim.
I have experienced conflict being bullied when I was little. Some kids took my hat and didn't give it back. Once I threatened to call the teacher they gave it back and I forgot all about it. Forgive and forget are the best things to do after being bullied. In the end the bullies are the ones being affected. One has to question why are they bullying? I heard later that year, one of the fourth grade bullies received a call from the 3rd graders parents and he was scared. He left alone the 3rd grader. My experience being an eye witness to bullying was not something I would like to see again.
The two goals that I have for the year are too stop the conflict between people at my school and give out some good examples of a friend. I will achieve these goals by stopping bullying with peace and respect and standing up for people who are having problems with bullies. If I see someone being bullied in the future I will take action and say stop. I hope that my message has clearly been sent out and people reading this will take action and help.

What Is Courage (Facing my fear)
I time I have shown courage is possibly the time I went swimming with sharks! I was on a holiday in Bali and me and my family were on a snorkeling trip. Although I was a accompanied by all the other people on the trip sharks were one of my worst nightmares. Watching jaws was enough to keep me out of the water but seeing sharks was enough to keep me of the beach. I loved snorkeling without but with sharks I couldn't do it.
It took all my will to face my fear. All I had to do was jump in so I did. The shock of cold water gave me a chill then I looked below me and saw a huge shark as big as a car.As big as a big car. A dark shadow rising up beneath me. I kept an eye on it suspiciously and I got used to it. I started swimming around seeing more sharks peacefully passing by and I was actually starting to enjoy myself. My fear had vanished from existence.
To face a fear you need to think of why you fear that thing. Being scared of heights is common with a but there are reasons such as falling or possibly just looking down. Being scared of sharks has bundle of reasons whether it's being eaten, Being attacked or looking at there toothy grin. The key ingredient for facing a fear is courage. Everyone can do anything but not everyone would have the courage to do it. I would not be seen walking on the streets alone, it's just one thing that I wouldn't agree too. Being mugged would be a nasty experience. This has hopefully shared my ideas and experiences with courage.

What do the artifacts tell us about the lives of early humans?
Artifacts go back to millions of years ago when the first Hominids took steps on this earth. Artifacts tell us lots about what one needs to know about someone else. Artifacts tell us what someone liked doing. if someone was into hunting they might own a horse spera. If someone liked to craft you might find a pot. Artifacts are clues to the past. Early humans must have had lots of possessions which tells us what kinds of people they were. Early humans could have expressed themselves through some artifacts that would have told us about there lives. The earlier hominids would not have known how to do as much as the newer ones because as humans evolved the brains grew larger giving them more knowledge on everything.
Early Humans such as homo habilis probably didn't own as many artifacts as the newer neanderthals. Over time people would start making new tools and artifacts such as bows, necklaces, clothes and other discoveries. If I was back when early humans lived i would spend my day making tools, skinning animals or searching for small prey and from doing those jobs I would leave behind some equipment which would later be found as an artifact. Early hominids such as homo sapiens may have left behind cave paintings about animals telling us they hunted those animals. Artifacts tell us lots about early humans such as what gods they prayed to, what religion they were, what they ate and even whether or not they were man eaters.

Social Scientists-Archeologist
An Archaeologist is someone who studies civilisations from the past and recovers ancient objects such as, ruins, tombs, everyday objects and bone fragments. I love exploring and stumbling upon interesting devices or equipment so I think that being an archaeologist would be very similar and just as fun.
Archaeologists discover the past which can change the future and help mankind in some way. If we had never discovered the Aztecs we would have more basic strategies of filtering water. Many ancient tribes have helped us survive winters, storms and other natural disasters.I think that I would play a good role as an archaeologist due to my enthusiasm in discovery and my knowledge in ancient civilisations such as the Mayans and the Aztecs.
Archaeologists have discovered ancient songs, ancient tools and even ancient languages such as Avestan an old Persian language.
Archaeologists have dig sites all around the world where they make new discoveries all the time which is gaining knowledge for the human race with helps us with ideas for things we do in every day life. Without the discoveries of the past we would probably cook food on fires, live in huts and strangely enough go to the bathroom without toilets. Archaeologists take a large role in the world providing us with ideas to evolve.
Thousands of discoveries are made each year but not all of them mean much. If we found out Romans liked grapes we couldn't use that information to make a change. Some places archaeologists explore are set with booby traps so no one would discover what lies behind them. Before the Egyptians died out they set lots of booby traps around the pyramids so no one would discover the secrets that lay beneath. Some civilisations such as the Romans turned against there leader murdering him leading to the fall of Rome. Most civilisations stayed on longer thanks to the fact that they worked together and managed to get along.
Although I would like to stick to being an archaeologist being a geographer has crossed my mind. I have always been interested in maps and would like to make one. The fact you would end up in a study all day has crossed my mind and it put me off quite a bit. A historian would definitely not fit me. I am not a keen reader and would not enjoy doing what they do. Archaeologists really get stuck in. They go to deserts and and volcano's and unravel secrets of the world.

My name is Jake , I come from the Uk but I wouldn't call it home. For 6 years of my life I have lived in Sri Lanka(an island just below India) and grown up there. Me and my family moved into Sri Lanka on my fourth birthday in 2003 and stayed all the way to my ninth birthday in 2009.
My three favourite things to do are playing football(soccer), Playing guitar and watching new movies. I hate taking walks watching tennis and getting mosquito bites.
I live at Ukay heights right at the top of the hill and we have lots of monkey trouble. Only a few days ago sneaked into my sisters room and stole her lip balm.
My dad works for the red cross a ngo that deals with natural disasters and my mum is a part time dyslexia specialist and a yoga teacher.I have one older sister called Jessie who i would call a real pain but sometimes we get along and have a chat. I think she'll work as a lawyer.
I don't believe in aliens but I try complimenting them in case of abduction and I do believe in sea monsters. There is scientific proof!
Now hopefully I have told you enough about myself and can move on to the rest of the blog.
Where do I start with books. From the beggining or the end. I have read books that could have been torture in a nazi jail and books that outrun movies.
My personal favourites that I have recently read are Wild Magic the true story of why the pied piper came to Hamelin, a magical tale that consists of all a book can have, Once you read this you'll believe that hills have doors. This great novel was written by Cat Weatherill.
Another great book I read was Shadow forest where a brother and sister travel to Norway to see there grandma who lives next to a dark forest where one wrong turn can mean death in this never ending tale by Matt Haig.
One of my personal favourites is georges marvelous medicine by Roal Dahl a story about a boy who is left at home with his mean old grandma. Only when he realises that his grandma takes a spoonfull of medicine every day a plan comes to mind.
As I said on the paragraph above I will tell you truthfully I love watching new movies. My favourite style of movie involves action, special effects, romance, a bit of a thrill, comedy and sometimes intresting neutral actors.
The most recent movie I have watched was The Last Air Bender which should deserve a defenite 6/10. I thought the plot was resonable the special effects were brilliant but the acting was very cheesy.
Now the best things about the movie were the special effects not to mension the setting. It was placed in a jungle a snow plain and a dark fortress which was much like earth in a magic way. The special effects were easily the best I have seen. It went from tidal waves to fire balls and even earth rising up to meet the sky.
The plot was that the avatar disapeared for 100 years then the fire tribe took over and the rest of the tribes are fighting back against the fire tribe. Alright movie.
Recently I have moved into middle school and I think that it took me by surprise. It is much funner then I thought but also very troubling with all the supplies I need. My one acedemic goal for the year is to stay on task no matter what the case is, I have a hard time listening for a long period of time .
My social goal for the year is to be able to cooperate and talk to people new at the school. Making new friends is pretty cool. I remember when I was new last year I had an easy time making friends and fitting in.
for almost 2 months we spent our holiday in England doing everything there was to do . We stayed in London,Devon and worcestire but a funny memory I had was going saling with my uncle Dave. We arrived at are sailing point, (I forgot what it was called but apparently it was the 2nd biggest harbor in the world) then we cast of the anchor and set of moving out of the harbor. As we were moving out we passed some boats from the navy which I found very cool. We followed the green and oronge boys to get into free waters then we sighted a huge boat known as the condor ferrie. It job was to get people from one side of the harbor to the other. We saw it a few times on that trip. We stopped for lunch just beside a huge cliff where no boats were and had a peacful lunch. Just as we were going to turn back we saw a huge fog forming where we were heading. We went right in to the fog then we saw the depth gauge getting higher and higher all the way up to 1 meter so we turned off the enginges and managed to get into deeper water then out of the fog we heard the foghorn of the ferry. in a moment of chaos and havoc we just about managed to avoid it. We got back to the harbor and as we landed we saw the condor ferry coming out of the fog. It coundln't go through the fog and from then on we called it chicken condor.
